Postcards are a wonderful way to collect the history of our
beloved hounds particularly as one cannot buy the original portraits and
one can only have so many prints on the walls even if prints were
available as 99% are not. Postcards can be framed or kept in a special
album to peruse as one wishes. Postcards are also a very inexpensive way
of collecting.
I have had a marvelous time searching the world for these
postcards, not just on the net, but by telephone internationally and
actually visiting many of the homes of the original portraits. I believe
my prices are more reasonable than other sources, so please enjoy a little
bit of history.
All postage per card is $3.00. For quantity purchases please E-Mail me email for postage.
All items on this page are postcards, even those not specifically
mentioned as such in the single items' descriptions.

|
# 49 - This is a vintage Postcard from around 1917. It is of Gladys
Cooper who was the most famous British Actress of her day. She made
over a 100 different photographic Postcards but as far as I have so far
discovered only 4 with her hound, probably a deerhound except this was
1916 or so. Strangely, I thought I already have this card in my own
collection, which I do in a way - in my card both Gladys' and the hound's
head is in a different position, very curious! So perhaps there are
actually 5 different hound postcards with Gladys. Its in very good
condition and postally used. $9.00 plus postage.

|
# 51 - Now this postcard is a little different! It is postcard made
from a real 1895 photograph. A Mr. Angelo and his dog, which was
thought to be a lurcher while actually it was an 1900 wolfhound of the
day. Mr. Angelo bred actually about 60 hounds then with Graham as well
as others. So a valuable postcard of a real photograph of about 1895.
$6.00 plus postage.

# 52 - Trade cards were little cards popped into packets of ten
cigaretts or cereals or even tea from about 1930 to 1960 sort of
"freebies" for people to collect and collect they did on all sorts of
subjects. Their size was usually approx 2 1/2 inch by 1 1/2 inch
Dogs were a favourite. I am amazed that such little bits of card have
survived for so long. They can be kept in a little album, but they also
look wonderful framed and make marvelous little gifts to fellow hound
friends. This particular card is from Gallaher Ltd cigarette makers,
it says a Deerhound but is lovely and a must for the collector. $5.00
plus postage
|
|
|

 |
|
|
# 54 - These two images are in fact a players cigarette card and
the same image in a "transfer" which is why the writing is back to
front. Transfers were used to "stick" on one's skin, this I think would
be for children - amazing that such a delicate thing has survived.
Instructions for the best results are on the back of the transfer!
Both for $6.00 plus postage.

|
|

 |
|
|
# 55 - Yes, Great Dane trade cards but such nice ones I couldn't

collection at the local Grocery store! $9.00 for both cards plus
postage.
|
|

animals. $5.00 plus postage.
